5 Bruce Grove

The objective was to transform the listed building into more suitable residential accommodation while developing the rear of the site into ten-family dwellings.  Our main considerations during the design process were:

  • Ensuring any proposals enhance and is sympathetic to the Bruce Castle Conservation area.

  • To restore and bring back into full use an under-utilised Grade II semi-detached Georgian house.

  • Enable future linkages to the surrounding sites to ensure the council’s wider development aspirations for the adjacent industrial sites are not prejudiced.

  • To provide a contemporary design for the rear development in order to contrast to the listed building.

  • To create a high-quality sustainable development providing ten new residential family dwellings with a low environmental impact in an area that has been identified for residential development.
